There is always something cinematic in Akarattya. Magaspart is the place where you stop on a summer evening and feel the weight of Lake Balaton. Huge trees, a narrow bench and infinity in front of you – you really get the feeling that you can see the whole lake from here. You come here not necessarily for the programmes, but because you need a moment to redefine what summer means.
Then, if you really want to go to the beach, you walk down to Kisfaludy beach – and it’s a surprise. Because it doesn’t advertise itself, it doesn’t have a lot of hype around it, but it works like a charm. It’s family friendly, yet youthful. Not fancy, but honest. You get a flame that you don’t want to share. The water deepens quickly, the shore is pebbly, but that’s what gives it character.
The people here aren’t the ‘show-off’ type – more like long-time holidaymakers, young couples and those who escape a bit of the hustle. But don’t think it’s boring: I once got involved with a group of friends there who spontaneously made a beer pong out of sand and mineral water bottles, and it turned into a mini beach party in the evening. People don’t play a role here – they just want to have a good time. And it’s really liberating.
