Fövenyes – Pirate Beach Bistro

kaloz-strandbisztro

The Kalóz is not a party place, but if you ask where you can find the most sincere, human atmosphere of Lake Balaton, I’ll direct you here. This is the place where you don’t have to be fussy, no one cares what shoes you’re wearing or what brand of sunglasses you’re wearing. Here you sit down at the end of the pier with a beer or a glass of wine and somehow everything falls into place. Seriously.

Their food? Well, listen, I had such a pulled pork sandwich there last year that I almost decided to spend all my summers in the Highlands. The chef doesn’t overdo it, he just does it right. Fresh, tasty, just what you want after a long day. And there’s always some good music – acoustic, live or just background, but it slips into your soul.

And then there’s the sunset. This side of Lake Balaton is a bit more secluded, less touristy, so when the sun goes down, it’s really yours. No crowds, no noise – just the orange light, the reflection of the water, the quiet conversations. It’s like the world stops for a little while.
